Oh my gracious alive I feel like I JUST wrote one of these goals posts! November just flew by and I am sure December will go just as quickly.
Before we know it 2018 will be here!
On to my recap of November…
November Goals and Actual Happenings
I am going to just say it now: I gave up on promoting my blog in Facebook groups about half way through the month. My stats show it as well. I have my reasons for doing this which I will go over at the end of this post. I think my blog is overdue a little bit of a revamp if I am going to reach my blogging goals. I recently checked out https://www.hostiserver.com/ in order to learn more about the impact switching web hosting provider could have on my blog.

Goal 1: Reach 4000 pageviews
Epic fail here. I am ending the month with 2500 pageviews which is slightly more what I ended with last month. I know, I know don’t chase pageviews…it’s quality views that count…I get it, but it is really satisfying to see my numbers climb.
If I would have kept writing new stuff and promoting the hell out of it like I had been, I would have blasted through that 4000 views goal. But, like I said, I do have a very good reason for this. I just need to wrap my brain around it a little more!
Goal 2: Increase my Pinterest reach to 57k
This was a huge win! Not only did I REACH my goal but I SURPASSED it by roughly 30k! I ended November with a Pinterest reach of 90k!
Last month I mentioned that I wasn’t sure if increasing my reach would really result in an increase in traffic, but it totally did. Which is one reason I am changing my promotion strategy so much.
I also mentioned last month that I was starting to go through Pinteresting Strategies. I can’t give away specifics but I will say that just by implementing 2 of her ideas my reach grew almost over night. I wouldn’t say it “exploded” my traffic at this point, but I have seen a great increase in my traffic from Pinterest.
Goal 3: Get accepted to 25 group boards
Another fail. I knew this was a long shot really. I did manage to get on 2 more decent boards this month so I will keep plugging away at it.
Goal 4: Finish Opt-in
Fail! I simply ran out of time to do all the things this month. As you may know I am in my senior year of my writing degree and it is an extremely demanding program. It takes up a HUGE amount of my time but it is also my number one priority right now.
Unfortunately, some things had to go on the back-burner so I could maintain my 4.0 GPA. The opt-in was one of those things.
Goal 5: Invest in Convert Kit
Done! In the post Blogging Reality Check I state that you must be willing to invest in your business. This is one place that I didn’t want to skimp. I knew later down the road I would be switching to CK, but ladies, I am lazy sometimes and I just didn’t want the added work that it would take to eventually make the switch!
My opt-in is almost done so I will launch it very soon! How exciting!
Goal 6: Invest in paid stock photos
One of the things that I really wanted to do was find a decent stock photo site that I could afford. I chose Depositphotos and am CONSIDERING Haute Stock. I signed up for the free stock photo pack she offers and they are BEAUTIFUL! Both services run about 300 dollars for the year and honestly I would want to keep deposit photos too, so that would be a 600 dollar annual investment for PHOTOS! For now deposit photos will have to do!
Goal 7: Write 16 posts in November
Ha! Nope didn’t happen! I blame school and the flu. *sigh* That and the fact that I was still spending way too much time promoting and not enough writing. I think I got up 4. However, those 4 posts have all been doing really well for me on Pinterest.
Remain status quo.
I really want to spend time honing my writing skills and with my crazy kids this winter break so I am giving myself permission to relax just a bit.
A couple of months ago I told myself that I was done buying books and courses about blogging for a while. Then comes Black Friday and I get an e-mail telling me Lena was having a huge sale and I could get Traffic Transformation for 50% off!
I have been wanting to read this for a LONG time and was waiting for a sale. So I HAD to buy it! 😉
So far I have only had time to read through it and I really like what I saw. I don’t have time for a ton of trial and error anymore so this guide was really helpful in creating a strategy, knowing where to spend you time (and where NOT to)…which is why I changed my promotion strategy so much.
What isn’t working for me right now
The last couple of months I have spent about 5 hours A DAY doing these “chore threads” my pageviews were steadily climbing and I was pretty happy with that.
Until I saw my bounce rate and other analytics! My bounce rate went up to 93% (from 62%) and I attribute it to the massive pageviews I was getting from Stumbleupon.
I started comparing my google analytics for referrals from Pinterest, Facebook, Stumbleupon and Direct traffic. What I came away with was that the average referral from Pinterest was spending 3 minutes and 45 seconds on my site with an average of 2 pages, Direct traffic was spending close to 6 minutes per person with an average of 3.5 page views.
As where Facebook refferals were averaging 1 minute and only 1 pageview and Stumbleupon refferals were averaging….wait for it…
5 SECONDS. Yes. 5 SECONDS.
*sigh* Ladies, I work really hard to post unique, high-quality content. It is almost insulting to see an average that low!
All that to say that in my opinion, quality views are better than a large quantity of views. How is 2000 people hitting my site for 5 seconds really going to help me? It’s not!
Pinterest and Direct traffic are the best sources for active users. That is what we want. People that are interested and interacting with our content.
So THAT is why I am changing my game plan for the new year!
A few other things I wanted to mention are that I am doing a full review on Pinteresting Strategies later this month! It really is a game changer.
Secondly, after I implement a few strategies from Traffic Transformation I will do a full review as well!
Third, I have come up with a whole new way of structuring my workflow and I can’t wait to share it with you! It deserves a post of it’s own and this post is already quite long!
So tell me ladies, did you reach your goals this month? Why or why not? Is there anything new going on in your part of the blogosphere? Let me know in the comments below!
